Job Description: Pharmacy Assistant (Retail)

Role Summary: The Pharmacy Assistant provides essential support to the Pharmacist by handling the technical and administrative tasks of a retail drug store. This role focuses on reading prescriptions, organizing medicine stock, and ensuring customers receive efficient service.

Key Responsibilities

• Prescription Processing: Read and interpret doctor prescriptions (handwritten or digital) and enter data into the pharmacy system.
• Dispensing Support: Pull the correct medication from the shelves, count pills, and apply accurate dosage labels for the Pharmacist to review.
• Inventory Control: Organize medicine shelves, track stock levels, and check for expired products.
• Customer Service: Greet patients, handle cash/card payments at the counter, and answer basic questions about over-the-counter (OTC) products.
• Clerical Duties: Maintain patient records, file insurance claims, and keep the pharmacy area clean and professional.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical Skills: Ability to read medical terminology and distinguish between brand and generic drug names.
• Precision: Strong attention to detail to ensure the right medicine and dosage are selected.
• Service Skills: Friendly communication and the ability to handle a fast-paced retail environment.
• Ethics: Strict adherence to patient confidentiality and privacy laws.

Working Conditions

• Requires standing for long periods.
• May involve shift work, including weekends or evenings.
• Requires working under the direct supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist.
