Job Description

Role & responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented Alt Text Writer with a background or strong interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). This role focuses on creating clear, accurate, and accessible alternative text descriptions for images, charts, diagrams, and visual media used in STEM content. Your work will play a key role in making technical information accessible to users with visual impairments.

Preferred candidate profile

Write concise, descriptive alt text for images in STEM subjects, including graphs, equations, diagrams, and illustrations
Translate complex visual information into clear, understandable descriptions
Collaborate with content creators, designers, and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy
Follow accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG guidelines) and internal style guides
Review and edit alt text for clarity, consistency, and inclusivity
Adapt tone and level of detail based on context (educational, research, or general audience)

Bachelors degree in a STEM field or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Strong written English skills with attention to detail
Ability to interpret scientific visuals such as charts, graphs, and technical diagrams
Familiarity with accessibility principles and inclusive content practices
Ability to simplify complex information without losing meaning
