Job Description

The Veterinary Officer Avian Specialist will be responsible for the medical care, treatment, and rehabilitation of birds, including resident and rescued avian species. The role involves clinical management, emergency response, and supporting conservation efforts, with a focus on maintaining the highest standards of avian welfare.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Feed Formulations activities & coordination with all other veterinarians at WSOS.
  • Examining animals and checking their health status
  • Dressing the wounds of injured Birds
  • Maintains animal health by diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries.
  • Determines the nature of disease or injury by examining birds.
  • Restores animal health by treating animals surgically or medically.
  • Prevents rabies, brucellosis, and other disorders by testing animals and providing inoculations.
  • Promotes the health of animals by advising animal caretakers about sanitation measures, feeding, and general care.
  • Documents actions by completing and updating forms, reports, and animal records and reporting diseases.
  • Nutritional evaluation of different feed ingredients.
  • Providing technical service support.
  • Proactively managing critical medicine inventory and its norms.
  • Diagnose and treat avian diseases, injuries, and infections
  • Perform minor and major surgical procedures on birds
  • Develop and implement treatment and rehabilitation plans
  • Monitor recovery and maintain detailed medical records
  • Provide emergency care to rescued and injured birds
  • Assist in field rescues, transportation, and stabilisation
  • Conduct routine health check-ups and screenings
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs
  • Prepare case reports and assist in research/documentation
  • Train paravets, caregivers, and rescue staff in avian handling and first aid
  • Work closely with rescue, rehabilitation, and outreach teams
