Job Description
Position Title: Head of Design
Industry: Automotive (Tier 1 Supplier)
Location: Shirwal
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Design to lead the technical execution of our automotive component portfolio, including EV systems such as Batteries, VCU, Electronics, Ignition Coils, Relays, Sensors, and Magneto systems
As a key member of the engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the complete design lifecycle from initial concept development to Start of Production (SOP)while ensuring alignment with OEM requirements, quality standards, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Define and implement the long-term design and technology roadmap aligned with industry trends such as EV adoption, lightweight materials, and software-defined vehicles.
Customer Interface (OEM Interaction)
Act as the primary technical point of contact for OEM R&D teams. Lead design discussions, RFQs, technical reviews, and design freeze approvals.
Concept to SOP Execution
Manage the complete product design lifecycle including concept development, 3D modeling, 2D detailing, DFMEA, DV/PV validation, and PPAP approvals.
Team Management
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronics, and software engineers along with CAD designers.
Technical Excellence
Ensure robust and manufacturable designs using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles while maintaining high quality and performance standards.
Project & Cost Management
Monitor timelines, deliverables, and budgets. Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA-VE) initiatives for cost optimization.
Innovation & Development
Integrate advanced materials and smart electronic features into product designs while promoting continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
Experience
Minimum 12+ years in automotive design with at least 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role within a Tier 1 supplier or OEM
Technical Skills
Expertise in 3D CAD tools such as Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar platforms
Domain Knowledge
Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, DFM, DtF, and IATF 16949 standards
Hands-on experience in Automotive Electronics
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Successful product launches (SOP) within timeline and budget
Customer satisfaction and OEM feedback
On-time PPAP approvals
Cost reductions through VA-VE initiatives
Number of innovations or patents filed
