Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled API Integration / APIM Engineer to support the migration and integration of existing APIs into a newly established API Management (APIM) platform. This role will be responsible for assessing current APIs, onboarding them into the APIM framework, applying policies and security controls, standardizing documentation, and ensuring reliable performance, governance, and scalability across the API ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with API development and integration, APIM platforms, API security, and enterprise architecture patterns. This individual will work closely with application teams, architects, security, DevOps, and business stakeholders to enable secure, reusable, and well-governed APIs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing APIs and assess readiness for migration into the APIM platform
- Design and implement API onboarding patterns into the new APIM structure
- Configure APIs, products, subscriptions, policies, routing rules, and versioning within APIM
- Apply API security best practices including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT validation, rate limiting, throttling, and access control
- Develop and enforce API governance standards, naming conventions, lifecycle management, and reusable policy templates
- Support transformation, mediation, and routing between backend services and APIM gateways
- Troubleshoot API connectivity, authentication, policy enforcement, latency, and performance issues
- Collaborate with backend application teams to remediate compatibility gaps and improve API design where needed
- Create and maintain API documentation, onboarding guides, and operational runbooks
- Partner with DevOps teams to automate deployment of APIs and APIM configurations using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Monitor API health, usage, and performance using logging and observability tools
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, architecture, and operational standards
Required Skills:
- Experience with API Management platforms -Azure APIM
- Experience configuring Azure API Management APIs, products, named values, backends, policies, subscriptions, and developer portal settings
- Experience writing and maintaining APIM policies for transformation, routing, authentication, throttling, caching, and header manipulation
- Familiarity with Azure Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure DevOps, and Bicep/ARM/Terraform
- Knowledge of hybrid integration with Azure Functions, App Services, Logic Apps, and on-prem/backend APIs
- Experience designing secure API exposure patterns for internal, partner, and external consumers
- Knowledge of Postman
- Strong knowledge of REST, JSON, XML, OpenAPI/Swagger
- Experience integrating existing APIs into API gateway or APIM frameworks
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, rate limiting, and access policies
- Experience with API testing tools such as Postman and SoapUI
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Infrastructure as Code
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills
