Job Description
Job Title: Power BI Developer/Lead
Experience: 4-12 years
Job Summary: An experienced Power BI Developer/Lead to design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI. Their primary focus is transforming raw data into actionable insights by building data models, designing interactive dashboards, creating reports, and ensuring data accuracy and performance. Power BI Developers work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, translate business requirements into technical specifications, execute DAX calculations, and optimize BI solutions for usability and performance. They also support integration of Power BI into enterprise applications, perform data validation, and provide technical support to endusers.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand BI, reporting, and visualization needs.
- Translate business needs into technical specifications and BI solution designs.
- Design, build, test, and deploy Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations.
- Develop data models (tabular/multidimensional) aligned with warehouse standards and create KPIs, measures, and DAX calculations.
- Implement rowlevel security, custom visuals, and interactive reporting layers.
- Build and maintain robust data models using Power Query, DAX, SQL, and ETL processes.
- Integrate data from multiple sources, perform data cleansing, and ensure schema alignment.
- Establish semantic layers and optimized datasets to support reusable reporting frameworks.
- Validate formulas, visualizations, and data outputs to ensure accuracy and performance.
- Conduct testing of data pipelines, refresh cycles, and model/report performance.
Required Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including report and dashboard development.
- Ability to build data models, create measures, KPIs, and perform complex DAX calculations.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, validation, and performance tuning.
- Experience building semantic models (star/snowflake schemas), tabular models, and handling data transformations using Power Query.
- Understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and integrating data across multiple sources.
- Advanced capability in DAX to create analytical expressions, calculations, and optimized metrics.
- Strong understanding of Power Query (M) for data cleansing and transformation.
- Ability to design intuitive, interactive dashboards following visualization and UX best practices.
- Experience creating custom visuals, implementing row-level security, and managing workspace-level design.
- Knowledge of report deployment, scheduling refreshes, managing gateways, and integrating Power BI with external apps (embedded analytics).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, etc.) is highly preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Power BI/Fabric Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as Power BI/Fabric Data Analyst.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, or NoSQL databases.
- Experience with data governance, data security, and data compliance
