DEPARTMENT: Microbiological Laboratory / R&D
DATE: June 2026
Job Scope / Summary:
To assist the lab head and manage microbiological laboratory operations by ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable microbiological testing, method validation, environmental monitoring, and quality control activities. The role supports research and development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance while maintaining laboratory safety, operational efficiency, and adherence to applicable quality standards.
Qualification & Experience:
- M.Sc. in Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 8-12 years of experience in microbiological laboratory operations.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in industrial, pharmaceutical, chemical, water treatment, food, environmental, or related testing laboratories preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO, GMP, GLP, and laboratory quality management systems.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage and supervise all microbiological laboratory activities and personnel.
- Oversee microbiological testing of raw materials, process samples, finished products, water systems, and environmental monitoring samples.
- Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of laboratory test results and reports.
- Develop, validate, and implement microbiological methods and testing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and laboratory SOPs.
- Investigate microbiological deviations, contamination events, and out-of-specification results.
- Monitor laboratory quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Support R&D activities, product development studies, and technical investigations.
- Ensure calibration, maintenance, and qualification of laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and implement corrective actions.
- Manage laboratory budgets, consumables, reagents, and inventory.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and development support to laboratory personnel.
- Maintain laboratory documentation, records, protocols, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and environmental requirements.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Production, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and other functional teams.
Skills / Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of microbiology and microbiological testing techniques.
- Expertise in microbial identification, environmental monitoring, and laboratory quality systems.
- Knowledge of ISO, GMP, GLP, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigation skills.
- Ability to interpret microbiological data and prepare technical reports.
- Leadership and team management capabilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Planning, organizing, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in laboratory documentation and computer applications.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
