Role & responsibilities
FinOps Engineering: Role Summary
The FinOps Engineer is responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing multi-cloud financial operations across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
This role operates at the intersection of Cloud Infrastructure, SRE, IT Operations, and Finance, enabling cost transparency, optimization, automation, and value realization at enterprise scale.
The role is engineering-led, focused on governance frameworks, automation, and decision intelligence, not manual cost reporting.
Key Responsibilities
FinOps Strategy & Architecture
Define and own the enterprise FinOps operating model aligned to Cloud Ops, SRE, and ITSM
Design centralized FinOps & CMP architecture integrating cloud billing APIs, ITSM, observability, and automation platforms
Establish cost governance frameworks across multi-cloud environments
Enable chargeback/showback models aligned to business units and services
Act as the FinOps thought leader across Cloud, Infra, App, and Finance teams
Enable product, platform, and application teams to make cost-efficient decisions
Enforce cost allocation, tagging hygiene, and policy compliance
Drive continuous cost optimization through automation and policy-driven controls
Partner with Cloud Engineering teams to embed cost-aware architecture patterns
Enable closed-loop cost optimization through ITSM and orchestration tools
Build executive-ready FinOps dashboards for cost, usage, and optimization insights
Drive predictive insights for demand forecasting and capacity planning
Required Skills & Experience
Core FinOps & Cloud Skills
Strong hands-on experience in FinOps for AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
Deep understanding of:
Cloud billing models and pricing constructs
Cost allocation and tagging strategies
Multi-cloud cost optimization techniques
Experience with Cloud Management Platforms (CMP) and FinOps tooling
Preferred Qualifications
5-8 Years of Experience
FinOps Certified Practitioner / Professional
Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP Architect level preferred)
Experience with AI-driven or AIOps-enabled FinOps
Exposure to Value Realization / Business Outcome frameworks
